Harbor studio interior at golden hour

About the studio

A small coastal studio — by deliberate design.

Founded in 2018 by Catherine Marsh and Elena Reyes in a restored 19th-century granite mill on the Rockport harbor. Twelve practitioners, four program tiers, two hundred members, and a single quiet building looking out over the water.

Our story

One restored mill. Six unhurried years.

“Harbor was built around a simple question: what would a wellness studio look like if nobody was trying to sell you anything? We’re still answering it, slowly, on the water.”

Catherine Marsh and Elena Reyes opened Harbor in the spring of 2018, in a 19th-century granite mill they spent eighteen months restoring with a local carpenter and a stubborn refusal to install fluorescent anything. Catherine had been teaching at Kripalu for fourteen years. Elena had been sitting at Spirit Rock for twenty-two. They’d met at a teacher training, written each other Christmas cards for a decade, and finally decided to build something together.

Harbor is, by design, small. Two practice rooms (one heated, one not), three treatment rooms upstairs, a quiet tea library on the ground floor, and a deck looking over Rockport harbor that we lock after sunset only reluctantly. We’ve never expanded, never opened a second location, never sold a Groupon, and never bought a single billboard. Most of our members find us through other members.

Six years later, the building looks more or less the same. The linen curtains have been replaced once, the floors have been re-finished twice, the back wall got painted a deeper navy last fall. There are twelve practitioners now — six yoga teachers, two meditation teachers, a sound healer, a breathwork specialist, a massage therapist, and a reiki master — and about two hundred active members who come in regularly enough that we know their preferred treatment room.

Harbor doesn’t run promotions, doesn’t do high-pressure membership pitches, and doesn’t auto-renew anything. We consider what we’re building closer to a small country club than a yoga studio — except the only thing it’s exclusive about is the rate at which we let in new members, which we cap to keep the room feeling like a room and not a queue.

Operating principles

Six rules that haven’t changed since 2018.

A studio this small only works if its principles are non-negotiable. These are ours, written down so members can hold us to them.

Curated membership

We accept roughly 30 new members each quarter. Applications open Jan / Apr / Jul / Oct. We're trying to keep the room feeling like a room — not a queue.

Senior practitioners only

Every teacher on staff has at least 500 hours of training and ten years of experience. We don't run YTT courses; we hire people who've already trained somewhere good.

No contracts, no auto-renew

Memberships bill monthly and pause anytime. Drop-ins and 10-class packs are always available. We bill manually each month; if you forget to come, we don't quietly keep charging you.

One spa treatment monthly, included

Every member gets one 60-minute treatment a month — massage, reiki, craniosacral, your choice. Treatments are bookable up to four weeks ahead.

Four retreats a year

Spring Coastal Reset, Summer Solstice, Fall Equinox, Winter Stillpoint. Each is three nights at our coastal property. Members get 20% off and first access.

A welcoming room

All bodies, all sizes, all experience levels welcome on every mat and in every treatment room. We say it because we mean it; the room looks like the town it's in.

Your practitioners

The practitioners you’ll actually practice with.

Every face at the front of the room is on staff — we don’t bring in subs. Most of our practitioners have been here since the studio opened. You’ll know your teachers by their first names.

Harbor is the only place I let myself be reachable on Slack from. Six months into membership and I think about it the way I used to think about therapy — as the hour that holds the rest of the week up.

I came up for the Coastal Reset weekend last fall and ended up booking the spring one before I left. Catherine and Elena have built something rare — it feels like staying at a friend's beach house, except the friend is also your meditation teacher.

The thing about Harbor is that nobody is selling you anything. I've been a member for four years and I've never had a single upsell at the desk. They trust that the practice will keep me coming back, and they're right.
